Works

This work is conceived for a 30 square meter space. I established contact with a primary school in Berlin (Finow school) and received permission from parents and the head master to have the hands of the children of a first grade to be photographed for use in this art project. Among the 24 children of the class 1d, I selected 10 photographed hands which are inserted in 10 programmable "stamp machines". Each machine types 4 wooden stamps with the letters C, T, A and G in a rhythm or different sequences on the photos of the hands. The process is guided by a micro controller (single-board computer). Each chip contains its own program and carries the name of each respective child, whose left hand is coded symbolically with the base sequence of DNA. The machines operate interactively, which means that through a proximity device coding begins as soon as a person enters the room. The 10 machines hang on the wall at a height of approximately 116 cm. They form a series, one after the other, so that they function together like a large conveyor belt machine. Besides the noise of the stamps, the viewer can also hear the voices of playing children. On the wall opposite each machine-box the name of each individual child is engraved on a small white signboard. The signs with names are placed on the wall in the same order as the machine-boxes. On another wall in the room, a group photograph of the whole class with two teachers is presented exactly in the middle of the wall.
